With prices for housing, gas and grocery items going through the roof, many couples are trying to cut back on their wedding expenses. One area you can do this is by saving money when you buy wedding flowers.
- Select from in season flowers - if you are getting married in the fall, choose fall wedding flowers. Not only will they cost less, they are more likely to survive seasonal weather conditions longer.
- The advice of a good florist can save you a lot of time and money. Don’t be afraid to let your florist know your budget. They won’t be able to work miracles, but they will be able to suggest appropriate flowers and arrangements to make the most of your budget. In the Times Argus Susan Thompson, a Vermont florist suggests, “Be flexible in deciding on a similar, lower-priced, available (in-season) substitute.”
- If you have the time and skills, you may purchase your flowers directly from the wholesaler and make your own arrangements. The book Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride has some gorgeous suggestions with very detailed instructions for making your own arrangements.
- Something not everyone may be comfortable with, buy is certainly worth considering if you are on a tight budget, is to share flowers for the ceremony with another couple being married at the same location on the same day.
- Another way to save when you buy wedding flowers you need to buy is to reuse the bridal party’s wedding flowers bouquets as table centrepieces. Typically, after the photo shoots these are not carried anymore and they are too beautiful to hide away.
- Sun Journal suggests, for centrepieces on your guests tables, using candles with your flowers (make sure your arrangements won’t catch fire!) or using cheaper silk flowers. The article has lots of suggestions for saving money in other parts of your wedding as well.
- By choosing an outdoor wedding you may be able to forgo ceremonial site decorations altogether. A stunning park or garden, in all it’s fall splendor, may offer all the beauty you need.
Now you’ve got the idea, you can start to save on all aspects of your wedding! But if you need a little more help you can’t go past Amazing Wedding Planning by Erica Yoon. You’ll have more savings ideas than you ever thought possible.
