The wedding’s over…now what?

As brides, many of us put a tremendous amount of our life and soul into planning the perfect wedding. It’s no exaggeration to say that some brides started planning their wedding before they even met their partner. Once the formality of becoming engaged is out of the way, it’s full steam ahead to ensure that everything is as close as possible to that long held wedding day vision.

By becoming so tenaciously involved in every detail of wedding planning - from invitations to flowers and shoes to music - it is easy to forget that there is life after the big day.

Mail Online has a very interesting article, Help! I’ve got post-nuptial depression, discussing the feeling of emptiness many brides feel once the wedding is over.

It’s not that they don’t love their partner or love being married. Instead, once the goal, and all the work that goes along with it, of the wedding day of her dreams has been achieved normal life can seem a little, well, ho-hum.

It is so vitally important to maintain relationships and interests outside of planning your wedding to combat the deflated post wedding feeling many brides experience.

Don’t forget to take a few days or even a week off every now and then from checking your lists or designing wedding stationery every now and then. Your wedding won’t suffer, you’ll be refreshed and more importantly, you’ll maintain your connection with “real life”.

Topiary wedding arrangement

Here’s a quick little video showing the most gorgeous topiary arrangements being made.  They look so lovely and fresh in the color scheme shown, but could be customised to your own wedding palette quite easily.

They’d make fantastic ceremony or reception arrangements.  The topiary shape is quite formal and classic, so they are a great substitute to large arrangements.  By playing with the color and type of flowers used, the mood can be altered to suit any type of wedding.

How to save on destination weddings

December 7th by admin

Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular.  For some, cheap travel enables them to have a dream wedding in a tropical location, or perhaps a live a fairy tale for a day in a romantic castle.  Depending on where you live, a destination wedding can sometimes be a more economical option than holding your wedding locally.  Whatever your reasons for choosing a destination wedding, there are ways to save.

examiner.com recently published 12 steps to having a destination wedding for under $12,000.  My favorite tip was to find a local venue that looks like it’s somewhere else.  In this case it was a gorgeous Italian villa 45 minutes from Austin, TX (below).  Now, if you didn’t know any better, you’d swear that was in Italy!

Many of the savings tips that relate to local weddings will apply to a destination wedding as well.  For some more ideas check out my previous posts:

Color Schemes for Fall Wedding Flowers

November 30th by admin

Planning a color scheme for your fall wedding flowers can be a pretty daunting task.  Some of the things you need to consider are:

The style of your wedding

  • Formal - tend towards monochrome or pastel arrangements
  • Tropical - bright, lush colors.
  • Casual - bright or pastel, really it’s the style of arrangement that conveys the feel here.
  • Rustic or country - the colors of fall work especially well

The atmosphere you’re trying to create

  • This goes hand in hand with the style of your wedding (above).  Think about what sort of feel you’re going for.  Fun and playful, serious, relaxed and casual…

The colors your wedding party will be wearing

  • The colors of your wedding flowers also need to complement the attire of your wedding party.  Again you need to consider the look and feel of your wedding - do you want contrasts, monochromes, or complements?

What colors suit you, the bride

  • It pays to know what colors make the most of your own natural beauty.  For example, some people look great against orange others will look dreadful.  If you’re not sure, hold up some fabric swatches near your face and see which ones really make you glow.

You might have noticed I haven’t included the season of your wedding.  While many color combinations lend themselves to a particular season, I don’t think this should be a restricting factor particularly if you are having your ceremony and reception indoors.  The vast variety of fall wedding flowers available means you really can have any color combination you choose.

Some people just know what they want and it looks great.  Others, (like me) need a bit of help along the way.  Again, your florist can be of great assistance.  Don’t forget they work with color for a living.

But if you’re still having problems visualizing color combinations or coming up with ideas, I’ve found a great website for you called ColorSchemer.  It has heaps of color schemes on it (as the name suggests), all searchable by color or keywords.  Here’s a link to the search results for fall color schemes - all 86 of them!  Now if that doesn’t give you some ideas, well…

You can create a user account and save your favorite schemes.  Looks like great fun and certainly a worthwhile place to visit if you’re after some ideas.

I’d love to know your favorite color combinations for fall wedding flowers.  What colors did you have, or are you planning to have?  Leave a comment below.
