Whether to use a florist or DIY for your fall wedding flowers is really a personal decision. If you have the time, inclination and skills DIY is perfectly acceptable. Remember however that you will need some help come wedding day. You will no doubt be busy enjoying being pampered and getting ready on your wedding day. You may not have the time or want the stress of setting up flower arrangements. Enlist the help of some friends or family that are not so busy to ensure your flowers are ready. Be crystal clear about how you want things to look, so that you don’t need to give them a second thought on your busy day.
Using a florist is a great option. Even if you decide to DIY your fall wedding flowers, the advice and contacts of a florist can be invaluable. If you do decide to use a florist talk to a few before you make your final decision. Check that they are experienced in wedding arrangements. Ask to take a look at some photos of weddings they have done. You will be putting a lot of trust in your florist, so make sure you chose someone you can work well with.
Once the decision on the florist is made it’s time for that boring subject - budget. Again, you need to be crystal clear so there are absolutely no misunderstandings. The florist needs to be clear about what you want and what you can afford. You need to be clear about what is included, when payments are expected and what your responsibilities will be. For instance, are vases for centerpieces available to rent or do you need to buy them? Is setting up on the morning of the wedding an additional cost?
Another important piece of information that doesn’t directly relate to the florist, but is important to them nonetheless is access to the ceremony venue and reception centre to set up your arrangements.
As much as I love wedding flowers, I chose to use a florist because I wanted to totally enjoy and soak up preparing for my wedding in a calm and stressfree environment. So the choice is up to you. There’s no right or wrong. The most important thing is to enjoy your fall wedding flowers.
