Wedding Ideas

I’ve just come across a great blog for anyone looking for inspiration, not only for their fall wedding flowers ideas, but for their whole wedding.

There are stories and lovely pictures submitted by readers telling of their own wedding day as well as regular giveaways.  The part I love best though is the inspiration boards.

A few times a week, the most beautiful collages are posted providing inspiration for every part of your wedding.  Not only that, there are little bits of advice giving you real, practical ideas on how to achieve the looks in the inspiration boards.  Items covered include paper, fashion, decor, flowers, food, other details, things to splurge on and things you can do for free.

Go over and take a look at Snippet & Ink - Daily Wedding Inspiration.  I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.

Florist or DIY Fall Wedding Flowers

Whether to use a florist or DIY for your fall wedding flowers is really a personal decision.  If you have the time, inclination and skills DIY is perfectly acceptable.  Remember however that you will need some help come wedding day.  You will no doubt be busy enjoying being pampered and getting ready on your wedding day.  You may not have the time or want the stress of setting up flower arrangements.  Enlist the help of some friends or family that are not so busy to ensure your flowers are ready.  Be crystal clear about how you want things to look, so that you don’t need to give them a second thought on your busy day.

Using a florist is a great option.  Even if you decide to DIY your fall wedding flowers, the advice and contacts of a florist can be invaluable.  If you do decide to use a florist talk to a few before you make your final decision.  Check that they are experienced in wedding arrangements.  Ask to take a look at some photos of weddings they have done.  You will be putting a lot of trust in your florist, so make sure you chose someone you can work well with.

Once the decision on the florist is made it’s time for that boring subject - budget.  Again, you need to be crystal clear so there are absolutely no misunderstandings.  The florist needs to be clear about what you want and what you can afford.  You need to be clear about what is included, when payments are expected and what your responsibilities will be.  For instance, are vases for centerpieces available to rent or do you need to buy them?  Is setting up on the morning of the wedding an additional cost?

Another important piece of information that doesn’t directly relate to the florist, but is important to them nonetheless is access to the ceremony venue and reception centre to set up your arrangements.

As much as I love wedding flowers, I chose to use a florist because I wanted to totally enjoy and soak up preparing for my wedding in a calm and stressfree environment.  So the choice is up to you.  There’s no right or wrong.  The most important thing is to enjoy your fall wedding flowers.

Think green when you buy wedding flowers

Being friendly to the environment is something I think we’re all mindful of in our day to day life.  However, if I were planning my wedding all over again it’s not something that would immediately spring to mind.  There are so many other things to worry about; the closest I would get to thinking about nature would be choosing my flowers and photo shoot locations!  So I was extremely interested to read “Plenty’s guide to a gorgeous green wedding”.

They have come up with an eco-friendly list of ideas for every aspect of your wedding, from invitations to attire to rings they have it covered.  I was particularly excited to read that the article was “inspired by fall’s ascent as the ‘New Wedding Season’”.

Here are some of the things they suggested for when you buy wedding flowers:

“Choosing seasonal, local flowers will save you time and money and will showcase the natural beauty of your wedding location. Fruit and greenery make excellent centerpieces and can add a festive air to a seasonal wedding (think pumpkins and apples in autumn, strawberries or tomatoes in summer).”

They also suggested sourcing fair trade and pesticide free flowers and have provided links to some places that you can start.

This video shows a complete set of bridal party fall wedding flowers. You can see the beautiful, rustic fall colors; the bride’s bouquet is a little more muted with understated colors but gorgeous lilies, while the bridesmaids’ are bolder colors. A lovely theme.
